Staff Team
Our compassionate team consists of medical doctors, psychotherapists, psychologists,
certified addiction specialists, acupuncturists, registered dieticians, holistic health
practitioners, yoga instructors, meditation instructors, registered nurses, bodywork
therapists, art therapist, and other types of health practitioners. Not only are we highly
qualified, we are passionate professionals who care deeply and are committed to what
we do, why we do it, and to those in our care.
Barbara Woods
Chief Executive Officer
Barbara Woods, LCSW, ACSW has worked in the field of mental health
for
35 years. She has specialized in the field of substance dependence
and co-occurring disorders having served both as a Primary Counselor,
Admissions Director and Clinical Services Director at various residential
drug and alcohol treatment centers and psychiatric hospitals across the U.S. In addition, she has worked as an EAP in the Workplace Services department for a
major managed care organization. She is also a trained interventionist.
Prior to coming to Casa Palmera, Ms. Woods served for a number of years as National Director of Marketing for Valley Hope Association. She has a bachelor's degree in Psychology and Social Rehabilitation from Troy State University, and a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Alabama. In addition, she has additional training and certification from Rutgers University in the field of substance dependence. This blend of direct service, managed care expertise and national marketing expertise brings a unique benefit to Casa Palmera.
Barbara Woods is one of seventeen board members of the National Association of Addiction Treatment Professionals (NAATP). Board members are elected to this position by a team of peers and fellow members. Ms. Woods actively participates in industry committees, board meetings and task forces to ensure that people in the addiction treatment community are providing the best possible care for their patients both nationally and internationally.
Robert Bradley Sanders DO.
Medical Director
With over twenty years of experience as a Psychiatrist, Dr. Sanders serves as the Medical Director for Casa Palmera.
Dr. Sanders completed his Psychiatric Residency training at the University of California, San Diego and is Board Certified by the Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry since 1993. A native and resident of San Diego, he has been a practicing physician providing direct patient care in hospital and outpatient treatment settings.
Doctor Sanders was honored as "Clinician of the Year for 2011" at the 25th Annual Mental
Health
Recognition Dinner hosted by over 25 major Mental Health Care Organizations
in Southern California.
Dr. Sanders has extensive experience as a Clinician and Administrator over the course of his career having served as Associate Medical Director (15 years experience) and Chief of Staff at two well-known San Diego hospitals. Dr. Sanders has been the Clinical Director of numerous hospital and outpatient-based treatment programs, and has participated as a member of the Medical Executive Committee, the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, Clinical Directors Committees, Performance Improvement Committees, and Peer Review committees in various prestigious institutes and hospitals in California. He currently is an Adjunct Clinical Professor of Psychiatry
at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, and in the past, served as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at UCSD.
Dr. Sanders holds a BS Degree in Zoology, and an MS Degree in Physiology from the University of California, Riverside. He obtained his Medical Degree from the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific. Dr. Sanders served his Medical/Surgical Internship at Hillside Hospital in San Diego California and completed his Psychiatric Residency at The University of California, San Diego. He is a member of the American Osteopathic Organization and the American Osteopathic Academy of Addiction Medicine.
Dmitri Sivtsov, M.D.
Psychiatrist
Dr. Dmitri Sivtsov joined Casa Palmera's residential treatment program in 2010 as attending physician. Dr. Sivtsov received his M.D. from the St. Petersburg State Pavlov Medical University, Russia in 1995. Following his residency at the Bekhterev Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology in St. Petersburg, he became a staff physician in the Department of Alcohol and Drug Abuse at the institute.
In 2001, he began an externship in psychiatry and addiction psychiatry in the Alcohol and Drug Treatment Program, Department of Psychiatry, at the University of California at San Diego. Dr. Sivtsov then completed an internship in psychiatry at the Harvard Psychiatry Residency Training Program. In 2003, he began his residency in psychiatry at the UCLA Residency Training Program, where he was chief resident from 2005-2006. During those same years, Dr. Sivtsov was a staff physician in the Department of Psychiatry at UCLA. In 2006, he became Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, UC San Diego School of Medicine.
Dr. Sivtsov began his private practice in La Jolla, CA in 2007. He was nominated by his patients and eventually won two highly prestigious awards, The Patient's Choice Award, and The Most Compassionate Doctor Award for 2010 from Healthgrades. It was at that same time that Dr. Sivtsov joined the staff at Casa Palmera. Dr. Sivtsov lives in the San Diego area and enjoys cars and travel. His father, Aleksander Sivtsov, M.D., is an eminent psychiatrist in St. Petersburg.
A.J Foster MD
Internist
A.J. Foster, MD, has been a Family Practitioner for thirty years. He is Board Certified by the American board of Family Practice and Chairman of the Department of Family Medicine at Scripps Memorial Hospital of La Jolla, California. Doctor Foster provides general medical care to the patient population at Casa Palmera.
Dr. Elliot Goldstein, PhD
Clinical Director
During the first 12 years of his career, Dr. Goldstein was the clinical director of a nationally renowned inpatient, seventy-bed, adolescent drug treatment program which originated from the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute. Following this, he continued to work in psychiatric hospital administration, where he received several awards for the excellence of his clinical programs. One such program, AllCare, under Dr. Goldstein's direction, developed one of the largest psychiatric mobile response teams in Los Angeles County; the success of this program led to Allcare's 24/7 centralized call center and the opening of several clinics. With over thirty seven years of professional experience, Dr. Goldstein has authored several research publications, spoken at national conferences throughout the world, trained medical residents, and has served as a guest expert in substance abuse treatment for many television and radio shows.
Dr. Goldstein has been a licensed clinical psychologist for over 30 years, is a qualified medical examiner, and holds his PhD in Psychology. Additionally, Dr. Goldstein is the Founder and CEO of Allcare Behavioral Health Services and Founder of Advanced Psychological Services.
Anissa Bell, MA, MFTI
Director of Admissions
Prior to coming to Casa Palmera, Anissa Bell previously spent time working for programs in adolescent residential, as well as drug and alcohol treatment centers, also community counseling clinics, and with a marriage & family research institute.
Ms. Bell has multiple degrees, with a BA in Communications, a BA in Psychology and an MA
in Counselor Education, Mental Health Counseling, all from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida. She is also in the process of completing an internship as a Licensed Marriage
and Family Therapist in the state of California.
Edel C. Mahdavifar
Director of Human Resources
With a BS in Accounting, Edel began her career working for a CPA firm in Guam. She also spent time with a tuna purse seine company as well as with a steamship agency in Guam. When she relocated to San Diego in 1999, she worked for a marine hardware company.
Edel's ten-year professional history also includes proficiency with employee relations, recruiting, compliance and training, as well as employee benefits. She is a California Notary Public, and holds membership in both SHRM and ASHHRA.
Ms. Mahdavifar is very passionate about her staff interactions and her professional work for
Casa Palmera, where she also oversees medical staff credentialing.
Jeff Johnson
Director of Activities and Dietary
Serving as both Dietary Service Supervisor and Certified Activity Director, Jeff Johnson has a variety of oversight duties for Casa Palmera. He is in charge of daily operations, which includes dietary supervision to ensure quality assurance and compliance with state and JCAHO regulations, as well as serving as the clinical liaison. Jeff is also in charge of therapeutic activities for the residents,
a part of which involves supervising Casa Palmera's popular guided ropes challenge course and climbing wall. He is certified by both ServSafe, a food safety designation, and as a Challenge Course Operator.
With a BA in Communications from the University of Arizona, Jeff has six years of experience with Casa Palmera. He has also seen duty as a member of the United States Marine Corps and has a previous background with a skilled nursing facility.
Jeff Johnson's personal and professional goal is "To be a part of a team that makes a difference in a patient's ongoing recovery."
Roberto Enriquez
Director of Environmental Services
As a long-time valued Casa Palmera team member, Roberto Enriquez has widespread responsibility for the smooth operations of daily life at the
residential treatment center.
Roberto's twenty-four-year commitment to Casa Palmera has included organizing and developing the departments of Housekeeping, Laundry & Linen and Maintenance, which includes central supply and medical waste. For these departments, he has primary responsibility for, and oversees, the development and use of departmental policies, procedures, staffing, payroll, equipment, supplies and all related contracts.
Dr. Jan Wagman, PhD, MFT
Primary Care Coordinator
Mood and Trauma Disorder Coordinator
Dr. Jan Wagman, a mental health industry veteran of twenty-three years, is licensed in the state of California as a Marriage Family Therapist and holds a California Life Time Single Subject Teaching Credential in Psychology and Government. She received her undergraduate degree from UCLA, MA as well as MFCC designations from Pepperdine, and her PhD from Ryokan College.
Dr. Wagman's numerous experiences in the field of mental health include appearances on local TV and radio news stations as an expert in PTSD. She has completed stints in public schools, adolescent facilities, street front crisis offices, adult treatment facilities, and private practice, as well as working with adults who suffer from chronic mood disorders. Additionally, Dr. Wagman has seen duty in the field as a first responder to natural disasters. Some of her most memorable experiences have been on the streets working with Los Angeles gangs.
Dr. Wagman's passion has always been to walk along side of those who have struggled with finding hope and a desire to heal- sometimes as a guide and at other times as simply a reminder that they are not alone.
Of her work at Casa Palmera, Dr. Wagman says, "Because I believe creativity heals, I include as much of the expressive arts as available. I also believe movement and nature offer much in the way of healing, and thus encourage my patients to throw a ball as well as just sit outside and meditate. I have seen Casa Palmera grow and expand over the years that I have been lucky enough to be here. I am continually in awe at the flexibility the administration provides its staff
in trying out new ideas."
Kellie Delli Collie
Psychological Assistant
Post Doctorate Intern
Dr. Delli Colli has a PhD in clinical psychology, and is the lead therapist working with clients utilizing clinical psycho-neurophysiology at Casa Palmara. Her work focuses on developing, implementing and supervising the clinical biofeedback individual, group and family program. She has worked in this specialty area for over five years, including three with Casa Palmera. Dr. Collie integrates psychological, quantitative electroencephalography and event-related potential assessments for differential diagnosis and treatment planning.
Previously, Kellie developed and implemented biofeedback clinical treatment for a residential adult alcohol and drug rehabilitation center, and has been a psychological assistant for five years. In 2000, Dr. Collie developed and implemented a program utilizing Zen Buddhism for alcoholism
at the Women's Center in Lawrence Massachusetts.
Dr. Collie has ten years of clinical experience that includes working with children and adolescents in school and residential treatment settings, as well as inpatient and partial hospitalization for adults and short-term acute residential care. Kellie served an internship at Home Start, Inc. working with adults, children, adolescents, couples and families focused on trauma, depression, anxiety disorders, domestic violence, chemical dependency, personality disorders and parent-child interaction therapy. At Casa Palmera, Kellie utilizes cognitive behavioral techniques including exposure therapy, experiential techniques, and aspects of Buddhism, yoga combined with biofeedback. This program was designed to treat people with eating disorders, trauma,
chronic pain and addiction, and chemical dependency.
Currently, Dr. Delli Colli is a psychological assistant and post-doctorate clinical psychology intern at Casa Palmera under the direct supervision of the clinical director Dr. Elliot Goldstein.
Dr. Collie's commitment to Casa Palmera is "continue developing an integral bio/neurofeedback program and to research qEEG and the efficacy of psycho-neurophysiology for a myriad of illnesses and diseases."
Michael Irvin
Primary Care Coordinator
Dr. Michael D. Irvin, PhD, currently serves as a Primary Care Coordinator at Casa Palmera. Dr. Irvin's doctoral training was completed at University California Santa Cruz in Social Psychology, California School of Professional Psychology's American Psychology Association Approved program in clinical psychology, and at San Diego State University where he completed a pre-doctoral internship for Board of Psychology pre-doctoral licensure hours. Additionally, Dr. Irvin served as adjunct faculty, and will complete his postdoctoral hours as a Research Fellow at University California San Diego with Dr. Meeks, M.D., Clinical Professor of Medicine,
Committee Member for the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual V in 2013.
Dr. Irvin has been in the field of counseling and clinical psychology for the past 16 years, providing treatment for a diverse population of patients in a variety of settings. These include university students, severely emotionally disturbed adolescent children, psychiatric hospitals, individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, mobile crisis units, and residential treatment centers. Dr. Irvin has served as a sub-investigator and psychometrician for over twenty-five clinical trial drug studies monitored by the Federal Drug Administration.
Rigo K. Brueck
Primary Care Coordinator
With twelve years in the field of substance abuse and addiction, Dr. Brueck has A PhD in Clinical Psychology and is an MFT, licensed in California. Dr. Brueck has worked
in the Department of Psychiatry & Psychotherapy at the University Medical Center Freiburg, Freiburg, Germany as well as with the Center on Alcoholism, Substance Abuse, and Addictions at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, New Mexico. He joined Casa Palmera in 2011.
Dr. Brueck holds multiple certifications in his field, including those in Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Analysis System of Psychotherapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy for Borderline Personality Disorder, Psychodynamic Imaginative Trauma Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Community Reinforcement Approach and Community Reinforcement Approach and Family Training.

Jessica Lidner, MA, MFTI, PhD Candidate
Primary Care Coordinator
Jessica Lidner, MA, MFTI, and currently completing her PhD in clinical psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute, began working as a Primary Care Coordinator at Casa Palmera in 2011. Jessica completed her Bachelor's degree at Antioch University, Los Angeles, with an emphasis in biology and psychology, and her Master's degree in clinical psychology at Antioch University in Santa Barbara, California, with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy. Ms. Lidner has worked for eight years in the field, beginning as a mental health technician in residential and intensive outpatient mental health settings, which inspired her to continue her studies in clinical psychology.
Jessica completed her clinical internship at Loma Linda University Hospital in Loma Linda, California, as a primary therapist working with adults, adolescents, and children at the Behavioral Medical Center in an acute psychiatric setting. She specializes in the treatment of chemical dependency and eating disorders in both adolescents and adults. Her areas of interest include: evidence-based Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Depth Psychology, Collaborative Problem Solving, and Narrative Therapy.
Ms. Lidner is a longstanding member of the American Psychological Association, the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, and the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals.
As a Primary Care Coordinator at Casa Palmera, Jessica Lidner facilitates the process for empowering residents to find the pathway back to wholeness and recovery from addictions and/or disordered eating. Jessica firmly believes that addictions and eating disorders are illnesses which, when treated correctly, can result in full recovery in which the individual is able to obtain freedom from the addiction/disorder. David Grey
Primary Care Coordinator
David Grey has worked in the recovery services field for over 17 years. He is a certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor, CADCll, with the California Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors, CAADAC. He obtained his certification at San Diego City College, San Diego, California. David also holds a Masters degree in Marriage, Family, Child Therapy from the University of Phoenix and is currently a Marriage, Family Therapist Intern (MFTI). David's specialty is in addiction and recovery, including support system development and relapse prevention.
David has worked in a variety of treatment settings, including acute detoxification, adult and adolescent inpatient and outpatient treatment, long-term residential rehabilitation programs, as
well as working with individual families. His experience includes service to a variety of populations, including adolescents, adults, families, dual-diagnosed and the elderly. Mr. Grey also serves as a relapse prevention counselor in a long-term transitional rehabilitation program, 12 to 18 months,
for veterans who have developed problems with addiction and homelessness.
David Grey specializes in teaching and counseling groups and individuals on all aspects of understanding addiction, and the necessary requirements for a successful lifestyle of recovery, including focus on emotional and spiritual growth, as well as personality transformation. He also has extensive experience working in areas of program supervision, development and design with a variety of treatment agencies in the San Diego area. David is passionately committed to helping those challenged by addictive disorders to find a process of recovery that will provide individuals with real, meaningful and lasting change in their lives.
Mr. Grey served on the Oral Examiners Board for the California Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors from 2002 until 2010. His position was that of an Oral Examiner for applicants taking the orals examination to become certified addictions counselors.
Jennifer Johnston, RN, BSN, PHN
Admissions Nurse
Jennifer Johnston has earned a double BS, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Health from San Diego State University and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Oklahoma (San Diego). Additionally she holds the licensures of California Registered Nurse and California Public Health Nurse. She has spent about two years in her chosen field of nursing. Before coming to Casa Palmera, Jennifer worked at an adolescent treatment facility for eating disorders and dual diagnosis in Los Angeles, California.
Joanna Sherman, RN
Admissions Coordinator
Admissions coordinator Joanna Sherman has a double baccalaureate with a BA in Political Science and a BS in Nursing, both from the University of Oklahoma. She has been in her field of nursing for a year, and of her work at Casa Palmera, has this to say, "I feel incredibly blessed to work at Casa Palmera, and thoroughly enjoy helping clients on their way to healthier living."
Diana L. Boyer
Admissions Coordinator
Diana Boyer has worked in the field of addiction for sixteen years, serving both adolescents and adults in multiple capacities, including that of Admission's Director, Family Resource Director, Family Coordinator, Family Communication Coordinator and Admission's Coordinator. Her years of service to her chosen field have included stints at outdoor therapeutic programs for teens, high schools and middle schools for problem teens, therapeutic high school for girls, and residential treatment centers.
Diana has also served her professional industry internationally as a four-year board Treasurer for the Tokyo Community Counseling Center as well as Program Chair for the American Women's Association of Hong Kong.
Diana's compassionate nature is reflected in her comments, "My passion is working with families
in a therapeutic setting. I see the whole family heal through the dedicated work that starts with the designated patient. A little kindness and compassion goes a long way in building trust and confidence in the process that begins with the admission."
Jana Overbey
Utilization Review and Performance Improvement Manager
With over twenty years in the field of Behavioral Health, Jana Overbey holds an MA in Counseling Psychology, as well as her Licensed Professional Counselor, LPC, and Certified Employee Assistance Professional, CEAP, designations. She has extensive experience coaching, mentoring and motivating staff members with whom she has served.
Jana has designed and implemented numerous training programs and assisted in policy development. She has aligned her fifteen years as a clinical manager for behavioral health insurance companies with her current skills in Utilization Review.
Ms. Overbey received the Case of the Year award for outstanding service to a high-risk client during her at ten-year stint at Magellan Behavioral Health.
Tammy Eurick
Eastern Region Outreach Coordinator
With nine years in the Addictions & Behavioral Health Industry, Tammy Eurick has logged many hours in such roles as Resident Manager, Admissions Director, Director of Marketing and Outreach Coordinator, in both Codependency Treatment and Addictions Treatment Centers. She has her Associate degree in Computer Science from the National Education Center, and is pursuing her Bachelor's in Psychology from the University of Phoenix.
About her personal and professional goals at Casa Palmera, Ms. Eurick says, "My goal is to develop and build relationships with professionals in the behavioral health/addictions industry,
in order to offer the best recovery resources possible to Casa Palmera clients.

Johnny Blackburn, MA, CN
Clinical Nutritionist
Johnny Blackburn combines degrees in both nutrition and psychology to offer a more comprehensive approach to nutrition. He emphasizes the importance of integrating the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual dimensions of nutrition from clinical practice, research, human history, and anthropology.
Johnny enjoys helping individuals develop a balanced healthy relationship with food, cultivate inner resources to overcome emotional eating, mange stress while eating more mindfully, and find the diet that best suits different individual constitutions for greater health, awareness,
body composition, mood, clarity, and achievement of life goals.
In addition to education, clinical practice and ongoing training, he has experientially traveled throughout North/Central/South America, Europe, SE Asia, & Australia comparing the diversity
of foods/dietary patterns, cultural beliefs, perceived stress levels, & lifestyles throughout various cultures in curiosity of cultural relativity.
Professional interests include nutrition, health, psychology, meditation, stress management, integral theory, spirituality, intentionality, shamanism, transpersonal non-local healing, human potential, the evolution of consciousness & the development of a more integrative functional humane medicine of the future.
George Koob PhD
Addictive Disorders Consultant
Dr. Koob graduated from Penn State with a degree in Zoology and received his PhD in Behavioral Physiology from Johns Hopkins University.
With 30 years in his field, Dr. Koob is a recognized authority on addiction and stress, has published over 670 scientific papers and has received continuous funding for his research from the National Institutes of Health, including the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). He is Director of the NIAAA Alcohol Research Center at The Scripps Research Institute, Consortium Coordinator for NIAAA's multi-center Integrative Neuroscience Initiative on Alcoholism, and Co-Director of the Pearson Center for Alcoholism and Addiction Research.
He won the Daniel Efron Award for excellence in research from the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology, was honored as a highly cited researcher from the Institute for Scientific Information, and was presented with the Distinguished Investigator Award from the Research Society on Alcoholism, and won the Mark Keller Award from NIAAA.
Koob is Editor-in-Chief USA for the journal Pharmacology Biochemistry and Behavior and Editor-in-Chief for Journal of Addiction Medicine. He published a landmark book in 2006 with his colleague Michel Le Moal entitled: Neurobiology of Addiction
Joyce Londano, RN RNC
Director of Staff Development
With twenty-five years in the special field of chemical dependency and eating disorders, Joyce Londono, RNC is a certified Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse (ANCC) and a certified Addictions Nurse (IntNSA).
Londono says of her duties At Casa Palmera, it a "It is privilege to be included in the tough work and magic of a personal recovery process our residents have the courage to experience."
Cortney Devlin
Yoga Instructor
Cortney Devlin came to the love of teaching yoga in early 2008 under the guidance of Sundara training at the Soul of Yoga and has since explored many styles, a few of her favorites being Yin Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, Warrior Strengthening and Anusara. The variety of classes she is privileged to teach include a style she calls Body Temple Yoga as well as Hatha, Vinyasa Flow and Mommy and Me Yoga. Cortney's experience includes a specialization in working with people who are treating pain, eating disorders and chemical dependency where she aims to guide each individual to come home in their Body Temple. Acupuncturist
Catherine Falter is a Licensed Acupuncturist and Herbalist who has a wide variety of experience treating Chemical Dependency and Eating Disorders, internal medicine and acute and chronic pain disorders. Catherine received her M.S. in Traditional Oriental Medicine from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in New York and San Diego, California. She is certified both by the California Acupuncture Board and the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. At Casa Palmera, Catherine works with each resident individually to create a
treatment plan based on his or her individual needs.
Liz Hoffman, YRT
Yoga Instructor
Liz Hoffmann YRT has been practicing yoga since 1997 and is a Core Power Yoga certified yoga instructor. Her training is in Ashtanga Power Vinyasa flow, Sculpt, and she also practices Hot Power Fusion, Hatha, Anusara and Yin Yoga. Her intention is to help students realize the power of their own mind and body through the steady practice of yoga.
Guiding her students in a safe and peaceful way she allows them to reconnect with their bodies. This in turn makes the mind and body stronger. Strong enough to endure the stress and pain of quitting negative behavior patterns. The mind - body - spirit connection is the emphasis of her teaching. Liz also incorporates the power of pranayama breathing. Stimulating the flow of prana, this breath control leads to a deep feeling of serenity and can be used, at any time, to control stress.
When not teaching Liz is continually taking workshops throughout the west coast and has been privileged to study under dynamic instructors including Kai Trinh and Michael Fukumura.
