Family Therapy
Why is family program important?
The basis of our Family Program is to introduce our belief that each individual within the family not only affects everyone within the family, but that the families' stability often depends upon each member fulfilling a specific role.
NOTE: The family program is only available for residents in a 30+ day program.
How does it work?
The family will be contacted weekly by the Primary Therapist to keep them aware of what is happening from the beginning of the resident's treatment. The weekly contacts will make it possible for the family to become acquainted with the Primary Therapist who will be responsible for managing the care of the resident.
The weekly contacts will also enable the Primary Therapist, as well as our Treatment Team, to obtain ongoing information that will allow us to strengthen and enhance the resident's care and formulate a more integrative treatment approach to meet the resident's particular treatment needs as treatment proceeds.
The weekly telephone contacts with the family will culminate in two connective days of face to face meetings at Casa Palmera. Each family will meet with our professional staff. The Family Program presents to the family all the therapeutic modalities that each individual resident experiences during their stay at Casa Palmera. This allows us at Casa Palmera to formulate an integrative approach that is individually designed for each of our residents' needs. Information obtained in the ongoing weekly contacts and the two days of face to face meetings with the family will generate information our Treatment Team will use to anticipate the nature of family members interactions with the resident: thus, making it possible to assist family members to identify and change their unhealthy ways of relating to the resident and use relating skills that will support and help maintain the healthy changes acquired by the resident in the course of treatment.
How will this play a role in the future?
This information will also be a significant factor in the development of a more appropriate discharge and aftercare plan by providing information to other professionals whose services may be necessary to sustain the resident's ongoing recovery after discharge from the Casa Palmera treatment program.
Life-changing lessons
After the Family Program, family members are encouraged to work on their own issues and utilize the skills they learned to continue developing healthy relationships with each other. Resources and recommendations for support services will be given to each family, specific to their needs. The Family Program is included in the cost of treatment.
