Drug Treatment Program

Our Program

Our intensive inpatient chemical dependency treatment facility is state licensed and accredited. At Casa Palmera we strongly believe that a comprehensive approach utilizing body-mind-spirit therapies, combined with sound conventional care, is the most complete and effective healing approach for renewal and rehabilitation.

Ropes course challenge at drug rehab

Through our individualized treatment programs your specific needs are met with both conventional treatment and carefully chosen complementary treatment modalities. Our thirty (30), sixty (60) and ninety (90) day residential alcohol and/or other drug treatment programs foster a supportive atmosphere of peace, spiritual richness and rehabilitation for adult men and women seeking freedom from their addictions.

How do we create a program designed specifically for you? By taking our Clinical Diagnostic Assessment our professional team can then create for you a program designed for your unique situation. This includes individual and group therapy, psycho-educational interactive groups and a rich variety of comprehensive treatment modalities such as yoga, equine growth and therapy, art and music therapy, and a ropes challenge course. Moving toward successful completion of treatment, residents undergo a comprehensive discharge planning process that ensures they will have the most adequate tools and support needed to continue on their road to recovery and a new life.

Our goal for your program at Casa Palmera is to change maladaptive behaviors through a therapeutic process in a safe and nurturing environment. This aids in improving self-esteem and self-efficacy through interpersonal group and individual psychotherapy, equine, art and music therapy, and our ropes course. Casa Palmera also focuses on improving the ability to self-comfort in healthy ways such as in Yin Yoga, Flow Yoga, and Pilates.

What is Chemical Dependency?

Chemical dependency is an unhealthy pattern of using alcohol and/or other drugs, such as cocaine, that affect the everyday functioning of a person, often leading to the need for treatment. This addiction is a physical and/or psychological disorder. You know that the addiction is physical when your body desires the substance or outwardly displays signs of tolerance and eventual withdrawal. It becomes psychologically addicting when they affect your emotions as well as your personality, and you have a strong desire for them. Males are typically more prone to drug and alcohol addiction than are women.

Overtime, the person's tolerance for the drug(s) will increase (so that more is required to achieve a desired effect) and withdrawal symptoms will occur if the drug use is stopped. With continued use the drug eventually becomes the number one priority in the person's life, as one is either seeking more of the drug, thinking about it, using it, or recovering from its use.

Types of Chemical Dependency

Different categories of abused substances are:

  • Alcohol - Alcohol addiction occurs when someone consumes large amounts of alcohol, disregarding any negative effects it may have on their ability to control themselves in the moment, their long-term physical health, or relationships and priorities they have made. Unfortunately, over 13% of U.S. adults will become alcohol addicts in their lifetime. (Learn about the effects of alcohol intoxication)
  • Drugs - Addiction to drugs occurs when someone has a compulsive need for drugs and consistently seeks them out despite negative results. Stimulants, inhalants, cannabinoids, depressants, opioids and morphine derivatives, anabolic steroids, hallucinogens and prescription drugs are the major categories of drugs in use. Cocaine (categorized as a stimulant) is highly addictive and is the most popular of all the stimulants used in the U.S. today. (Learn about stimulants, inhalants, cannabinoids and other types of drugs)

Many drug and alcohol users will experiment with other substances, but typically will have a primary drug they stick with. Out of all the various drugs abused, the biggest drug problem today is alcohol abuse.
